blog prompt #8


One social issue from act 1 is how the African American family in the book is living in a small apartment with multiple people are getting kicked out of their home because there are rich white Americans who are starting to move in and pay more money than the family who are already living there. This is important to me because its unfair for the family living there already who probably have been living there for a few years and just because a few white families start to move into the neighborhood they have to move out.

  Another social issue in act 1 is how there is a lot of arguments going on inside their home they're living in. Mostly about money because they are struggling with paying for their home and also the other issues they have with money like how beneatha wants to become a doctor but is struggling because she won't be able to afford going to school.

Bell Hooks

In my opinion I feel that race, gender, class, and sexual orientation is not an important thing to know about the authors I will be reading in school.  When Bell Hooks says " Th at   white world made me doubt myself. And in the space of that doubt I needed proof that they were all wrong—that there are great writers who happened to be black, just as my beloved Emily Dickinson happened to be white." When she said this I thought to myself that she meant that everyone is equal and the same as white people in  writing. That it didn't matter if you were a African American or white writer because you could be a great writer no matter what race you are. She says how Emily Dickinson is a writer who she beloved who happened to be white just as she was a writer who happened to be African American.
