blog prompt #6

I would personally define "Western canon" as recent  literature. In the article is says " "canon" of great masterpieces needs urgent revision. The implications of such revision are, of course, basic and affect considerably more than literature" Which I think means that western canon involves more than just literature but has to do with conflicts between countries. Also that we need to look at the cituations that are going on between these countries and solve them.  If I were to ruled the world the Literature in my canon would not be so negative to other  countries.

essay one reflection

1.  After reading the book The Brief Wondrous life of Oscar Wao, my general reflection on it is that I did enjoy learning about Dominican Republicans through Oscars life. Also I like how it included Marvel and DC comics in it because I'm a big fan of those types of movies. Over these past six weeks what has been challenging is the reading was difficult when it had Spanish words/ sentences because I don't know Spanish at all.  2. In my opinion The Brief Wondrous Life Of Oscar Wao is an example of good literature because it gives historical background on Dominican Republicans. Also it talks about Comics. 3. My general my feelings about essay 1 are that it was a little challenging to write because it was sometimes hard to figure out what I wanted to focus on with what topic I wanted to choose. the research wasn't hard to do or find it was pretty basic overall. the drafting part of this essay was probably the toughest part just because your putting your idea draft together ...

ESSAY 1 DRAFT

Jesenia Arzaga Professor Cummins English 1036 February 15, 2018 Essay 1 draft In the book The brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, Diaz writes literary references to establish a pop culture context for his story. He used four references such as Marvel and DC comics, Lord of the Rings, Classical Literature, and Manga/ Anime. Diaz wrote specific quotes that relates to these references. Each of these references have an importance of being in the book. Many people don’t know what any of these references are, to understand, “anime" in Japan technically means any animated film, and "manga" is any printed cartoon, but people in the rest of the world take them to mean animated films or comics from Japan (Rei).  A work of classical literature refers only to ancient Greek and Roman works, while classics refer to great works of literature throughout the ages (Lombardi). Lord  of the rings is based off a comic book and was turned into a movies series. A short story about i...

IDEA DRAFT

Oscar Wao draws heavily from popular culture. Comics as well as fantasy, science fiction, role playing games, film and music - to the extent it can even be considered a culture odyssey of "geekfom" in 80's and 90's America The majority of comic book references in the novel are from DC comics and Marvel universe like global icons such as batman and superman and popular series like X-man, the Fantastic four and Watchmen one source I might use is : Desai, Ahmad. “Superheroes in Love: The Role of Alan Moore's Watchmen in The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao.” Academia.edu , 22 Dec. 2014, www.academia.edu/19025540/Superheroes_in_Love_The_Role_of_Alan_Moore_s_Watchmen_in_The_Brief_Wondrous_Life_of_Oscar_Wao. The narrator of the Oscar sections is no stranger to a geeky allusion he repeatedly refers to himself as a Watcher yet he does not share in the same social awkwardness as Oscar in the book it shares a non-linear structure jumping back and forth in time  ...

Essay 1 Topic proposal and background knowledge

The topic that I want to research more about for my essay 1 is   Marvel and DC comics. The reason I choose this topic is because I am  huge fan of marvel movies it is one of my favorite type of movie to watch. I get excited every time a new marvel movie comes out. All I know about Marvel is that their comics are about superheroes. Marvel is known as a comic book with heroes such as Spiderman, the Hulk, the Advengers etc. Marvel is very popular when it come to making movies. Marvel remakes the comic book stories though the films. Thousands of people know about marvel because of the movies rather than the comics. The experience I have with this content is from watching ALL of the marvel movies. Something I would like to know is if there is anything else interesting about marvel comics that are't shown in movies. I don't know much about DC comics in the other hand. All that I know about DC comics is their comics are based off of heroic characters like super...
