Dear Beli

Dear Beli, How did you feel about Trujillo being the dictator of your country and the way he handled things when people didn’t follow him?  Based on what I read on page 83 I believe she would say she would be afraid to speak up about her rights because of what he does to those who don’t agree/ follow him.  The footnotes talks about the Mirabal sisters and how they were murdered because “ these beautiful sisters from Salcedo… resisted Trujillo…” These women were murdered because they “ don’t take shit from nobody, not even Trujillo.” After their death it was a sign for other people that this is the “official beginning of the end of the Trujillato, the “tipping point” when folks decided enough was enough.” How did you feel about raising your soon to be child during the time Trujillo was the dictator? Based on the footnotes I read on page 157 I believe you would say your scared and anxious about it because you wouldn’t feel safe. In the footnotes on page 157 it says how the ...

My personal experience of being "cursed"

My personal experience of being "cursed" was when I was in the eighth grade and I had gotten very hurt multiple times. I play softball and during practice one time on my travel ball team I had gotten hit in the face with a ball and broke my nose. I had to have surgery to fix my nose which was extremely scary for me.   During that time it was hard for me to do anything even sleep.  I wasn't able to play for an entire season. one I got better and started to play again during a tryout in the same year I broke my finger on my left hand and had to have a cast on for an entire month. After that month the doctors told me to take it easy from playing. I was too excited to play that I started practicing anyways after my cast was off and ended up dislocating my knee. At that point I was so tired of getting hurt I actually waited for my doctor to say it was okay for me to start playing again until doing anything....

Bell Hooks

In my opinion I feel that race, gender, class, and sexual orientation is not an important thing to know about the authors I will be reading in school.  When Bell Hooks says " Th at   white world made me doubt myself. And in the space of that doubt I needed proof that they were all wrong—that there are great writers who happened to be black, just as my beloved Emily Dickinson happened to be white." When she said this I thought to myself that she meant that everyone is equal and the same as white people in  writing. That it didn't matter if you were a African American or white writer because you could be a great writer no matter what race you are. She says how Emily Dickinson is a writer who she beloved who happened to be white just as she was a writer who happened to be African American. So don't judge a authors writing base off of there ethnicity. I think that it should not be an issue or concern that you need to know the...

Syllabus

After looking over the syllabus I don't have any questions. I'm looking forward to the different types of books, poems, and short stories that we are going to be reading this semester. Such as the book,  A Raisin in the Sun,  the poem  Because I could not stop for Death, and the short story  That Evening Sun.   I like reading new stories that I've never read before. However, essays are where I show my strong writing skills the most. I try to do the best I can. I think that grammar is more challenge for me when I write my essays though. I would like to improve in my skills in grammar during this semester.
