Essay 1 Topic proposal and background knowledge

  
The topic that I want to research more about for my essay 1 is  Marvel and DC comics. The reason I choose this topic is because I am  huge fan of marvel movies it is one of my favorite type of movie to watch. I get excited every time a new marvel movie comes out. All I know about Marvel is that their comics are about superheroes. Marvel is known as a comic book with heroes such as Spiderman, the Hulk, the Advengers etc. Marvel is very popular when it come to making movies. Marvel remakes the comic book stories though the films. Thousands of people know about marvel because of the movies rather than the comics. The experience I have with this content is from watching ALL of the marvel movies. Something I would like to know is if there is anything else interesting about marvel comics that are't shown in movies.

I don't know much about DC comics in the other hand. All that I know about DC comics is their comics are based off of heroic characters like superman, batman, wonder woman, green lantern, the flash, etc. I only know DC comics through their mice's of these heroic characters from movies. All I can say that these characters are people that go through tough situations and come to find out that they have a power they never knew they had until they were older. I would like to know more about DC comics besides through the movies I've seen.

Bell Hooks

In my opinion I feel that race, gender, class, and sexual orientation is not an important thing to know about the authors I will be reading in school.  When Bell Hooks says " Th at   white world made me doubt myself. And in the space of that doubt I needed proof that they were all wrong—that there are great writers who happened to be black, just as my beloved Emily Dickinson happened to be white." When she said this I thought to myself that she meant that everyone is equal and the same as white people in  writing. That it didn't matter if you were a African American or white writer because you could be a great writer no matter what race you are. She says how Emily Dickinson is a writer who she beloved who happened to be white just as she was a writer who happened to be African American.
